Vassar College
Founded in 1861, Vassar College is a highly selective, coeducational liberal arts college. Vassar Education & Student Life
With only 2,400 students, the 222 faculty members teach all classes, virtually all holding the doctorate or its equivalent. Students may concentrate in a single discipline, an interdepartmental or multidisciplinary program, or they may design an independent major. The college offers more than 100 student-run organizations and clubs, including WVKR-FM radio; debate; a volunteer network; dance, theater, and comedy troupes; classical, jazz, gospel, a cappella, and rock groups; nearly a dozen student publications; and a broad spectrum of ethnic, religious, and political groups. Students and faculty also enjoy campus-wide events, guest lecturers, visiting artists, performers, workshops, athletic events, and concerts.
Vassar Campus & Admissions
Maintained as an arboretum, the Vassar campus has more than 200 varieties of trees on 1,000 acres. The campus hub, Main Building, connects to the College Center, with a snack bar, café, art gallery, bookstore, post office, and computer store. The central campus includes classroom buildings, residence halls, the library, three science buildings, two observatories, the computer center, the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center, the studio art facility, the music building, and three theaters. Vassar offers an extensive athletics program with 23 varsity teams (N.C.A.A. Division III), club sports, intramural leagues, and expanded athletic facilities, including a new wood-floor gymnasium, elevated running track, 5,000-square-foot fitness facility, and new playing fields.
